Leadership Collaborative

The Leadership Collaborative is a program designed with the mission of fostering continuous growth and success for school leaders throughout New York State. SCOPE’s goal is to continue to provide professional learning opportunities to assist in shaping the future of education, not only by empowering the leaders of today but by helping to prepare those who will guide our schools in the years to come.

Engaged School District Management: Tools for Today’s Facilities Leaders

Lead with confidence. The Facilities Director Program gives today’s leaders the tools to manage safe, sustainable, and cost-effective schools while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.

This program equips current and aspiring Facilities Directors with the essential tools, strategies, and insights needed to effectively manage school district operations in today’s complex environment. From preventive maintenance and capital planning to energy efficiency and emergency preparedness, participants gain practical knowledge to support safe, sustainable, and cost-effective facilities. With a focus on leadership, compliance, and long-term planning, this program helps facilities professionals strengthen district operations and ensure that every student learns in a safe and well-maintained environment.

Transformative School District Leadership: Advanced Coursework for Superintendents and Cabinet-Level Administrators

Transform your leadership. This advanced program empowers superintendents and cabinet-level administrators with the skills to inspire, innovate, and drive districtwide success.

This advanced program builds the strategic and transformative leadership skills necessary to guide districts through today’s challenges and opportunities. Participants engage in high-level coursework on governance, human resources, collective bargaining, school safety, facilities management, and strategic planning. Through collaborative problem-solving and real-world case studies, superintendents and cabinet-level administrators will sharpen their decision-making, strengthen board and community relations, and position their districts for long-term success.

The Leadership Collaborative MENTOR Program for School and District-level Administrators

The mentor program for school and district-level administrators to unlock their leadership potential through the Leadership Collaborative Program for Today’s Administrators is up and running! SCOPE has secured experienced mentors for principals, special education directors, facility managers, curriculum directors, superintendents, and other key leadership roles. Participants will engage in personalized coaching, real-time problem-solving, and gain insights from seasoned retired administrators to refine their leadership vision and tackle real-time challenges. Flexible options for one-on-one or small group sessions are available.

Stony Brook/Suffolk County School Superintendents Association/SCOPE Cohort

Candidates for this program need to meet the following admission requirements:

  • Master’s degree. Your official transcript must indicate the conferral of a master’s degree, with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
  • New York State Permanent or Professional Teaching Certification, plus three years of full-time teaching, administrative, supervisory, or pupil personnel service experience, excluding civil service.
  • Two letters of recommendation. Two recommendation letters from school supervisory personnel or administrators who have a thorough knowledge of whether you have the temperament and disposition to become an effective leader.  One of the two recommendation letters needs to be from a Suffolk County School Superintendent.
  • Personal statement. All applicants must submit a  750-1000 word personal statement that should be a reflection of your ability to approach graduate-level work successfully, using creativity, critical thinking, analysis and research.

Certifications

SCOPE provides New York State certification training programs in child abuse ID and reporting, DASA (Dignity for All Students Act) and violence prevention for educators and other professionals who seek these credentials. School should be a safe space for students. Informed and trained teachers and teaching assistants can help transform schools into these safe spaces.

Parent Workshops


Our parent workshops are designed for parent organizations in a one-hour format. Parent topics include the following: Cyber-Safety; Bullying; Resiliency; Over-Indulgence; Protecting Children from Abduction/Sexual Abuse; Raising Socially Successful Children; and Understanding Early Adolescence

 

Professional Staff Programs

Professional staff programs are designed for the 45 minute to one-hour faculty meeting format. Topics can be expanded for in-service training. Many of these programs answer the Project SAVE mandate to provide violence pprevention in-service training to staff.

Professional staff topics include the following: Sexual Harassment; Child Abuse and Neglect; Bullying; Relational Aggression; Early Adolescence; Resiliency; Classroom Management; Early Warning Signs; Personal Safety; and Abduction Prevention Education

The student workshops are age-appropriate and available for students in Grades K-12. The programs are designed to answer one or more of the following SED mandates:

  • Personal Safety Education K-6 (Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse) (1984)

Katelyn Bucchio – teachkatelynbucchio@gmail.com

Since a child, Katelyn Bucchio set up her Papa’s shoes and taught them as if they were real life students. Fifteen years into the career, and she still wakes up each and every day with a passion to support every learner that walks into her classroom. Working in Mineola HS as and ELA, AP Research and ENL teacher over the past decade has taught her how crucial relationships are with your students and that when you believe in them, their success is limitless if you provide them with a path for success. Kathelyn has certifications in Adolescent Education English, Literacy and has spent a semester in a study abroad program in Spain to relearn how to become a learner of language. Kathelyn has won awards such as Early Educator from the National Council Teachers of English and Prestigious and Influential Educator from the Long Island Summit at St. Joseph’s University. In addition to her love for teaching students, Katelyn also uses her creativity to plan social events with her mobile bar cart writing poems and personalized menus for clients.

Brianna has been a Registered Dietitian for 15 years. For the past 9.5 years she has been working as a pediatric Dietitian at a Children’s Hospital on Long Island. In addition to providing direct patients with various disease states, including obesity. Brianna also takes part in research pertaining to childhood obesity.

Dina is an experienced elementary school teacher for 33 years, both in the capacity of classroom teacher and Math Instructional Coach. She is eager to share her knowledge and experience to make the instruction of mathematics more meaningful, innovative and exciting for both the teachers and students.

Francesca has been working as a Guidance Counselor for the past ten years. She loves working with students and is often confronted with the much difficult task of getting unmotivated students to produce work and to become engaged. Deirdre has been a middle school and high school English teacher in North Babylon since 1995. She graduated manga cum laude from Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in English and Secondary Education. She has been an inservice course instructor since 2005. She has been trained extensively in the Common Core, written curriculum, trained her colleagues building wide and been a new teacher mentor. She is committed to providing high quality inservice classes with research-based tasks and Common Core aligned materials.

Jill has been an educator in the West Hempstead UFSD for 30 years. She began her career as a classroom teacher with experience in grades K – 4 grades. In 2014, she became a Math AIS teacher. Currently she is the Math AIS teacher for grades 4 – 6. In 2014-15 she was fortunate to be a recipient of a NYS STLE (Strengthening Teacher Leader Effectiveness) Teacher Leader Grant. She is currently a member of her district’s APPR Committee, as well as, the RTI Committee.

Linda is a Speech Language Pathologist with 32 years’ experience in the field. She graduated Adelphi University with a Bachelor’s of Science in speech Pathology and Audiology and a Master’s of Science in Speech Pathology. She holds a certificate of Clinical Competence and NYS private practice license. She has been working in the Bayport/Blue Point School District for over 30 years. She has worked in various facilities on LI in summer programs as well as Private practice work. She is a trained Mentor for new teachers and student teachers in her school district.

Jill is a dedicated educator with over 25 years of tenure as a HS English teacher at Kings Park HS. A graduate of Stony Brook University, she has cultivated a diverse teaching portfolio that includes Regents, Honors, Advanced Placement and inclusion-level classes. Currently, she teaches AP Seminar, a College Board Capstone Program course, deigned to foster students’ critical thinking and research skills. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Jill is the Lead Teacher of the High School English Department, supporting her colleagues and contributing to the curriculum.

Angie is a K-12th grade bilingual speech-language pathologist, teaching in the Bay Shore School District. She has over 6 years experience working as a speech-language pathologist with children 15 months to 21 years of age. She has worked in private practice, school and home care settings. Angie holds her certification of clinical competency (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). She is certified as a Teacher of Children with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) in New York State with a bilingual extension in Spanish. Angie earned an advanced certificate in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology (Spanish) from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Angie has completed POMPT training for the treatment of motor speech disorders. She has had a diverse group of clients with various disorder including autism spectrum disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, dysphagia, vocal cord nodules and cognitive impairment.

Kysten has been a health educator for twenty years and an instructor for SCOPE since 2007. She obtained a BS in Community Health and Human Services, a certificate in counseling specializing in both nutrition and drug/alcohol addiction, and a MS in Special Education a NYS certified Paralegal specializing in both nutrition and drug/alcohol addiction, a MS in Special Education, a NYS certified Paralegal specializing in special education advocacy, a certified medical scribe, certified in Integrated Attachment Theory (IAT), a certified Lay Preacher in the United Methodist Church and she is pursuing her certification a a Certified Lay Minister (Assisting Minister).  Ms. Ellison is a certified health educator K-12.  She currently teaches health on the middle school and high school level in the Middle Country School District and facilitates many health related courses on the graduate level.  Ms. Ellison is also a trainer for educators on the prevention of violence and sexual bullying in youth, and is an Adjunct Professor at Stony Brook University in the Health Technology and Management Department in the School of Health Professions.

Richard obtained his BS in Physical Education and is certified in Health Education from Ithaca College, his Master’s Degree and School District Administration from SUNY@ Stony Brook and a Certified Driver Education Instructor. He has been teaching Peer Leadership, Wellness classes and running the Driver Education Program for the past 33 years at Syosset HS. He was the District and High School DASA Coordinator. He Has conducted a workshop during every Superintendent’s Conference Day, and he teaches for Syosset TRACT Center. He has extensive experience in teacher education, including Inservice and graduate courses. His expertise is in Peer Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Character Education, Growth Mindset, Student Engagement and improving school climate.

Jo Anna is a lifelong educator who brings heart, experience and a deep commitment to helping every child grow. With over 20 years of teaching across grades K-4, Jo Anna has worked in both general and special education classrooms, always striving to meet her students where they are. She’s certified in NYS Elementary Education, Reading (K-12) and Special Education (Birth-Grade 6), and holds degrees from Molloy College, Hofstra University and Brooklyn College. Currently Jo Anna supports students with IEPs through home instruction, teaches in the Extended School Year Program and works as a staff developer for the Port Washington Teacher Center-where she designs meaningful, tech-integrated professional development courses for fellow educators. Whether she’s guiding students through a social story or helping a teacher find a new way to reach a learner, Jo Anna’s work is ground in empathy, creativity, and a love for learning.

Debbie is a dedicated educator within the Lindenhurst Public Schools with a career spanning various grade levels. Currently serving as a Math Specialist, she finds immense joy in helping students build confidence in their numerical skills. Her passion for teaching extends beyond the traditional school calendar, as she frequently lead classes throughout the year and during the summer months. Now that her own children are older, she embraces the opportunity to pour my extra time and energy into my students. Outside of the classroom, Debbi is an avid boater who loves spending quality time with her family and soaking up the sun at the beach.

Jean, a retired Sayville Middle School teacher of Communication Skills, English, and Gifted Facilitator/teacher, also taught primary grades and high school, as well as professional development courses. As an Islip Spotlight Teacher, Above and Beyond Teacher, and Dowling Educator of the Month, her mottos are, “What we learn with pleasure, we seldom forget,” and “All children are gifted; they just open their packages at different times!” She always looks forward to sharing resources and ideas.

Kristina is a Speech Language Pathologist and has worked with a variety of ages and speech/language disorders. She is extremely passionate about helping individuals overcome their challenges of communication. She began her professional career as an itinerant Speech-Language Pathologist working with early intervention and preschool aged populations. She then began working for Nassau BOCES treating preschool and school aged students with Autism and moderate-severe-disabilities. While there, Kristina gained extensive knowledge with alternative and augmentative means of communication. She also has experience in providing tele-health services for both the private practice and school settings. Currently Kristina enjoys working for the Jericho School District at the elementary school level with grades K-5. Kristina is certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), licensed in the state of New York as a Speech Language Pathologist and Teach of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD), and is PROMPT Level 2 trained. Kristina is also a recipient of the Molloy College “30 Under 30 Young Alumni Award”.

Jaclyn is an educator with 20+ years of experience. She began her career as a classroom teacher and then became a literacy specialist. Presently she is an elementary school principal in the Oceanside School District. She is passionate about helping struggling readers learn to read and specializes in early literacy. Jaclyn is dedicated to empowering young learners to develop strong reading foundations in all pillars of literacy instruction including Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. She works to ensure every student has the tools and encouragement they need to succeed. She has presented at conferences including LILAC and NYSEC on topics pertaining to literacy instruction.

Tracey is a passionate educator of English Language Arts who is certified to teach K-12 in both general and special education. She teaches 7th grade in an integrated co-teach setting at Mineola Middle School, supporting students with a variety of learning needs. Above all, the thing Tracey enjoys the most about her job is fostering a love for reading in her students and supporting other educators in developing their teaching practice. She is attending courses at Molloy University to enhance her own professional practice and earn certification in the area of educational leadership.

Kristina A. Holzweiss is an educator with more than 25 years of experience.  She began her career as a 7th grade English teacher, and then spent 14 years as a middle school librarian.  Presently, she is the high school educational technology enrichment specialist at Syosset High School. Kristina shares ideas and resources about her school library and makerspaces on her website bunheadwithducttape.com. Kristina was named the School Library Journal Librarian of the Year in 2015, a National School Board 2016 – 2017 “20 to Watch” emerging education technology leader, and a 2018 Library Journal Mover & Shaker. She is also the winner of the 2015 NYSCATE Lee Bryant Outstanding Teacher Award and 2015 Long Island Technology Summit Fred Podolski Leadership and Innovation Award.  Kristina is an international speaker on the libraries and the Maker Movement, and has presented at conferences including ISTE, AASL, ALA, and NYSCATE. In 2016 she was invited to represent Long Island, NY in Washington, D.C. during the National Week of Making.

Vincenzo is a fifth grade teacher at Gardiner Manor School in Bay Shore. He received his MA from Queens College in Elementary Education and his BA from SUNY Genesseo in Psychology with Elementary Education Certification. He has taught online classes for Creative Teacher Education Institute and Brooklyn Brainery.

Gayle has been teaching English at the Brentwood School District for 25 years and has instructed Bilingual parent workshops at the district level. She is a master teacher who is heavily involved in student success and teacher education. Gayle was the English Language Arts Staff Developer at Brentwood for two years, where she created innovative lessons and disseminated information to faculty and students. She has taught classes at LIIPS and the Brentwood Teacher Center for fifteen years. Gayle has developed lectures for the Suffolk Reading Council, written articles for the “Social Studies Docket”, and was awarded ”New York State Educator of Excellence” in 2000. Last year, Gayle was honored as “Teacher of the Year” for the Brentwood School District.

Amy brings nearly 25 years of educational experience, including 19 years as a 6th grade English teacher and over 5 years as a Library Media Specialist. A receipient of the prestigious NYS of the Year award and the NYS Co-teacher award, Amy is recognized for her dedication to education and innovation. She has also developed and taught professional development courses focusing on mindfulness and fitness, empowering teachers to enhance their well-being and effectiveness in the classroom.

Maureen began teaching in 1997 as a Speech Pathologist in the Kings Park School District. She then taught 6th grade Inclusion for five years. Maureen became a Certified Academic Language Therapist in 2005 and a Literacy Specialist in 2010. She has been teaching students with dyslexia to read in grades 4 – 12 using the Orton Gillingham Methodology in the Kings Park School District since 2005.

Danielle is an elementary teacher with over 10 years of experience. She began as a third grade teacher and now teaches fourth grade in the Jericho school district. She is passionate about using technology with both her colleagues and students to make learning interactive, assessable and engaging. Danielle has cowritten an article in Vanguard Magazine (2020) about remote learning and presented at the LITES conference in 2020 about the gamification of assessments.

Andrew is certified in elementary education (birth-6th grade), educational technology (K-12) and literacy (K-12) in Plainview Old Bethpage Central School District. Andrew has over 25 years of classroom teaching experience and is known for excellence in building relationships with all students and their families with excellent classroom management, and rigorous academics and is a PTA Founders Day Award Recipient and Red Wagon School Climate Recipient.

Sue is an educator with more than 36 years of experience teaching in Long Beach and NYC. She has taught numerous fine arts, crafts, darkroom and digital photography and digital media classes at the high school level. She advised the school’s yearbook, Art club, Photography club and inaugurated the National Art Honor Society at her school. Sue is now retired from full-time teaching but continues to teach professional development courses for SCOPE, Art Supervisors Association and OSA Institute. She also spends her time photographing wildlife, travel photography and family portraits. Sue is still ltaking high school students to Europe yearly to capture the beauty and culture. Her photographs have been featured in CNN/Money magazine, The Wave newspaper, various Town of Hempstead’s calendars and the Heckscher Museum, Long Beach Public Library and numerous local Nassau and Suffolk County exhibitions.

Michelle has been teaching at Syosset High School for 25 years.   She earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oneonta and her Master of Science in Health Education from Adelphi University.  Michelle teaches an esteemed Peer Leadership program at Syosset, community service class and the mandated health education class to 11th graders.  Additionally, Michelle has been teaching professional development classes since 2015.

Christina is an educator with over 20 years of experience. She is a 1st grade teacher in the New Hyde Park School District. Additionally, she is Summer School Principal and Learning Academy Director for the district too. Christina was the recipient of SCOPE’s 2014 Teacher Service Award, NYS PTA Honorary Life Member and Distinguished Service Awards, and ASSET’s Bright Light Award for her integration of technology in the classroom. She is also a Google Certified: Level 1 and Level 2 and Apple Teacher, and ISTE Certificated Education.

Stefan welcomes the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with the goal of facilitating improvements in your pedagogical approach. His commitment to health and education spans over two decades in various roles, giving him a deep understanding of the pressures and potential within the school environment. He holds an undergraduate degree in Health Education and Psychology and a master’s degree in physical education and Exercise Science from Hofstra University, which provides him with a scientific lens on the mind-body connection. His background as a collegiate athlete reinforced the critical lesson that true success and resilience come not from inherent talent, but from consistent, focused training of both the body and the mind. Furthermore, he earned a Post master’s degree in educational leadership from Stony Brook University, focusing on system-wide organizational health and effective pedagogy. Beyond the classroom, he has spent many years as a coach and group fitness instructor. This experience has honed his ability to observe human behavior, motivate change, and translate complex concepts into clear, actionable practice—skills that directly apply to improving our teaching methodologies.

Michael has been an educator for over 33 years. His career began at the Maria Montessori School in Levittown, teaching various subjects for grades K-8. He moved to the Harborfields CSD and has taught health education since 1996. He has been an instructor for SCOPE and several other agencies since 2003. Michael has presented numerous workshops for Suffolk BOCES, SCOPE and Project SAVE Legislation. He ws named teacher of the year in 2006 through NUS AAHPERD, and earned eight Coach of the Year awards at Harborfields HS. He has earned his district thousands of dollars in different Grants Projects and was a founding member of the Harborfields Wellness Alliance in 2002. Michael serves in the New Teacher Mentor Program to help first year educators and regularly works with undergraduates from various universities as a student teacher mentor.

Janine is a licensed with over 17 years of professional experience. She began her career in foster care and later moved into psychiatric hospital settings, as well as home-based community services, where she worked with children and adolescents facing complex mental health and psychiatric challenges. worked in foster care, inpatient psychiatric settings, and intensive home/community-based services. For the past decade, Janine has been a dedicated social worker in the Kings Park School District, specifically at Kings Park HS. In her role, she supports students’ engagement in academics while addressing the social and emotional challenges they encounter. Janine provides counseling to numerous students, implements prevention programs, and collaborates with local communities in Suffolk County to connect families with needed resources.

Angela has been teaching at Valley Stream Central HS District since 1999. She serves as both a Social Studies Teacher and department chairperson at VS Memorial SHS. She obtained a BA from SUNY Stony Brook and MA in History at CW Post/LIU. Her Educational Administration Certification was earned from College of St. Rose. In 2015, Angela was the Valley Stream CHSD featured teacher.

Jeannette is an accomplished educator with over 20 years of experience specializing in literacy instruction across all school levels. Dedicated to research-driven methods, she designs Science of Reading courses that empower educators with evidence-based strategies. Jeannette has been twice honored as a ‘Model School Recipient’ for Technology Integration and has received the ‘Lindy Pride Award’ for community engagement. As a reading specialist, she delivers targeted interventions for struggling students. She holds multiple NYS certifications in reading, elementary, and special education, as well as certification in The Wilson Reading System.

Dr. Krystina White is an Elementary Instructional Coordinator with a passion for strengthening literacy instruction and supporting teacher development. She collaborates with educators through lesson planning, classroom-based reflection, and professional learning experiences. With a background in teaching and school leadership, she brings expertise in data-informed instruction, systems thinking and designing support that lead to positive student outcomes.

Jully is currently working as an ENL teacher for the North Babylon School District. Ms. Williams received her BA and her MA in TESOL from Adelphi University.
